Sewing Tips

When creating soft bunnies, choosing the right materials is essential. Plush, velour, and short-pile faux fur work wonderfully for soft, rounded shapes, while cotton is ideal for lighter decorative bunnies.

Stuffing should be added in small portions to avoid hollow spots. It is important to shape the face with care, using gentle sculpting to form expressive cheeks and a balanced nose.

Ears can be reinforced with an extra layer of fabric or a thin layer of stuffing so they keep a clean outline if you sew from cotton. Taking your time and paying attention to small details always shows in the finished toy.

  1. I think I will consider giving the 3rd option a try.  I am a visual learner, so the fact that you have a step by step visual guide is really appealing, especially for a complete beginner.

I noticed for all options that it says seam allowances not included.  What does this mean?  Sorry if this is a silly question, very little sewing experience here. 🙂

    • That sounds like a great choice! No worries at all, it’s not a silly question. ‘Seam allowances not included’ just means that the extra fabric you need to sew the pieces together isn’t included in the pattern itself. So when you cut your fabric, you’ll need to add a small border (usually around 0.5 – 0,7 cm) around each piece to allow for sewing. It’s super easy once you get the hang of it, and the visual guide should make it really clear!

  2. Hanna, this made me smile! I grew up in a village with no plush toys, my family made things in their own way, carving spoons from wood and gourds, turning simple materials into something warm and personal.

Your bunny patterns capture that same quiet joy. I love how beginner-friendly they are, with clear photos and simple lines. Do you think they’d work for group settings, like teaching kids or community workshops, using just basic hand-sewing? And if someone only has cotton or fabric scraps, which pattern would you recommend starting with?

    • Thank you for asking! It’s best to start with the third pattern. It’s the easiest to adapt to any fabric, including cotton or scraps, and works well for hand-sewing, even in group settings with children.
