Looking for a mouse sewing pattern for beginners? These two free patterns make a lovely matching pair: one mouse stands upright, and the other rests on its tummy. I made both from the same gray and pink fleece, so even with their different shapes, they clearly belong together. You can start with the one you like best, then use the second pattern to complete the pair.

Standing Mouse Sewing Pattern

The standing mouse has a compact rounded body, large ears, little feet, and a long tail. I especially like how the soft fleece gives this design a plump, three-dimensional shape without making the construction complicated. It is a sweet little mouse for a shelf, seasonal display, or handmade gift, and it pairs naturally with the second design below.

Lying Mouse Pattern

The lying mouse has a completely different silhouette, with a longer body, tiny paws, oversized ears, and a relaxed pose. Using the same fleece and matching pink details connects the two designs, while the different body shapes keep the pair interesting rather than making one mouse look like a copy of the other.

Both mice can be sewn completely by hand. For the main seams, I recommend a small backstitch because it creates a strong, secure seam that holds well after the toy is stuffed. FAQ

Do both mice need to be made from the same fabric?

No. I used the same gray and pink fleece because I wanted the two mice to look like a matching set, but you can use two coordinating colors instead. Repeating just one detail, such as the pink inner ears, is often enough to visually connect them.

What other fabrics can I use for these mouse patterns?

You can try cotton, flannel, minky, velour, or another soft fabric suitable for stuffed toys. Keep in mind that the finished result will change with the fabric. Fleece gives these particular mice their soft, rounded volume and slightly plump appearance. A thin woven cotton creates a flatter, more defined shape, while minky makes the mice especially soft but can be a little more difficult for a beginner to control while sewing.

Can I resize the mouse patterns?

Yes. Print all pattern pieces at the same percentage to make the mouse larger or smaller. A slightly larger version can actually be easier for a beginner because the small curves and details are less fiddly. If you change the size significantly, the eyes and other small details may need to be adjusted too.

Before You Go

These two patterns are an easy way to create a coordinated pair without sewing the same toy twice. The matching fleece and details connect the mice, while their different poses give each one its own character.
