These DIY Harry Potter teddy bear accessories can turn an ordinary bear or stuffed animal into a charming little wizard. We will make three pieces for the complete look: a textured magic wand, a striped knitted scarf, and a miniature black felt hat.
Each accessory uses a different craft technique, so you can choose the project that suits you best or make the entire set. The wand is quick to craft, the scarf is a cozy knitting project, and the hat can be sewn by hand from just two pieces of felt.
DIY Harry Potter Magic Wand
A magic wand is the quickest way to give a teddy bear its wizard personality. It is also an easy project to customize because no two wands need to look exactly alike.
The base can be made from a wooden dowel or a thick wooden food stick. Choose its length according to the size of your toy. A wand that reaches approximately from the bear’s paws to slightly above its head usually looks nicely balanced.
Apply hot glue around one end to form a thicker handle. Slowly turn the stick as you add thin trails of glue, creating raised curls and twisting details. Once the glue has cooled, paint the wand brown or black. A little gold paint brushed across the raised areas brings out the texture and gives the surface an aged, magical finish.

To keep the wand in your teddy bear’s paw, use a small removable thread loop. This holds it securely without permanently attaching it to the toy.
Harry Potter Striped Teddy Bear Scarf
The wand introduces the character, but the scarf gives the whole outfit its color. Burgundy and golden-yellow stripes create the familiar wizard-school mood and stand out beautifully against brown, black, white, or gray plush.
The original scarf is knitted with thin yarn and 2.5 mm knitting needles. Cast on 10 stitches, then work a simple knit-one, purl-one rib. Change colors after every four rows to form clear, even stripes. When the scarf reaches the right length, bind off and add short pieces of both yarn colors to create the fringe.
Before deciding on the final length, wrap the unfinished scarf loosely around your teddy bear. It should drape naturally without hiding the face or covering most of the body. For a very small stuffed animal, fewer stitches and shorter color sections will keep the scarf from looking bulky.

You can also change the colors and create an entirely original wizard character. Deep green and silver, blue and bronze, or soft vintage shades can produce a very different personality.
DIY Mini Wizard Hat From Felt
The little black hat completes the transformation. Felt is especially convenient for this project because it holds the cone shape and does not fray along the cut edges.
The free pattern contains only two pieces, a cone and a brim. Sew the straight edges of the cone together, turn it right side out, and attach the lower edge to the opening in the brim with small hand stitches. The hat can remain slightly soft, so you can bend the point and shape it directly on your teddy bear’s head.
My original pattern has a decorative uneven brim and a playful bent point. In some of the styled photos, you may also see a neat round brim with a narrow band and tiny buckle. That is an optional variation. You can trim the brim into a simple circle and add the band after sewing, but these details are not required for the original hat.

For the finished look, place the scarf on the toy first, add the hat, and position the wand last. Check that the hat does not cover the eyes and that the scarf sits below the muzzle. Small hidden stitches or removable thread loops can keep everything in place during photography or display.

Yes. The projects can be resized for plush cats, mice, bunnies, ghosts, dolls, and many other small characters.
Which project is easiest for a beginner?
The wand is the simplest place to start. The felt hat is also beginner-friendly and can be sewn entirely by hand. The scarf requires basic knitting skills, including casting on, knitting, purling, changing colors, and binding off.
Can I make only one accessory?
Of course. A wand creates an instantly recognizable wizard look, while the scarf works beautifully as a colorful everyday teddy bear accessory. The hat can also be used for Halloween plushies and other fantasy characters.
