Looking for free felt cat patterns with a little personality? I seem to have a habit of making felt cats that like to climb into unusual places! One hides inside an envelope, another peeks out of a colorful cup, and the third has found a cozy spot in a crescent moon. I decided to bring all three together so you can choose your favorite or make the entire little family.

I use blanket stitch for most of the sewing. If you’re new to this technique, watch my Blanket Stitch Tutorial below. I show how to make neat stitches along felt edges, including curves and corners.

Felt Cat in an Envelope

This playful little cat peeks out of a handmade felt envelope, resting its tiny paws over the edge. Its round face, pointed ears, and embroidered whiskers give it a sweet expression.

Felt Cat in a Cup

My second cat has made itself comfortable inside a colorful felt cup decorated with a little flower. Only its gray head and tiny paws peek over the rim.

Felt Moon Cat

This little black cat has found a magical place to rest inside a bright yellow crescent moon. Its enormous eyes, tiny paws, and long curled tail make it one of my favorite felt characters.

FAQ

Are these free felt cat patterns suitable for beginners?

Yes. All three projects use simple hand-sewing techniques, mainly blanket stitch. The small decorative details require a little patience, but the individual tutorials guide you through each step.

What type of felt is best for these cat patterns?

I recommend felt approximately 2 mm thick. It holds its shape nicely, especially around small details, and is comfortable to sew by hand.

Can I resize the felt cat patterns?

Yes. You can enlarge or reduce the patterns before printing. Just remember that smaller pieces, particularly paws, ears, and facial details, become more difficult to cut and sew.

Can I turn these felt cats into hanging decorations?

Yes! Add a small ribbon or cord loop before completing the assembly. The moon cat, in particular, would make a lovely hanging decoration.

Before You Go

I hope these three free felt cat patterns inspire you to make a few new characters of your own. Even a small change in color or facial expression can give each cat a completely different personality.
