If you are looking for free bat patterns for sewing, this collection brings together five very different bat designs from my own sewing table. I am a teddy bear artist, so I always look at plush patterns a little differently. I want the toy to be soft, expressive, pleasant to hold, and interesting enough that you feel excited before you even choose the fabric.

These bats are not just Halloween decorations. Some are fluffy and collectible, some are easy and beginner-friendly, and some have beautiful floral wings that make it feel almost like a little fantasy character.

Each pattern below has its own mood. Some bats are better for a quick evening project, while others are more detailed and suitable for makers who enjoy shaping a face, working with faux fur, or adding small artistic details.

Large Faux Fur Bat With Floral Wings

The large, fluffy body, soft faux fur, and floral fabric wings make it feel different from the usual black Halloween bat. It is still a bat, of course, but it has more personality, almost like a woodland plush mixed with a romantic handmade toy.

You can use vintage cotton, cottagecore fabric, tiny roses, dark botanical prints, or even soft neutral fabric if you want a calmer style.

For this design, choose faux fur that has a nice, fluffy texture but is not too stiff. The wings need a fabric that can hold a clean shape, so cotton is a good option. I would not rush this one. Take your time cutting the fur, brush the pile out of the seams, and let the wings become the main design feature.

Easy Bat Plush

This easy bat plush pattern is the best choice if you want to start sewing right away without overthinking the project. It has a clean shape, soft wings, little ears, and a friendly plush look. It is modern because it is simple, not overloaded with details, and easy to customize with fabric.

You can make it from minky, fleece, plush, or even a mix of minky and cotton. I especially like the idea of using cotton for the inner ears and wings because it gives the bat a neat contrast. If you use a soft solid color for the body and a patterned fabric for the wings, the finished plush looks much more designed than complicated.

This is also the pattern I would suggest for beginners. The shapes are not scary, the sewing process is clear, and the finished bat still looks like a proper handmade plush. The decorative wing lines are a small detail, but they make a big difference. They help the wings look more professional and less flat.

Foxy Bat Plush

This handmade plush bat is for makers who enjoy a more artistic process. It uses faux fur, felt wings, a shaped face, and small details that bring the bat to life.

What makes this bat special is the amount of character you can create. The face is not just sewn and stuffed. You can trim the pile around the muzzle, add glass eyes or beads, shape the little nose, and use soft shading around the face and wings. These small choices change everything. One bat can look shy, another can look curious, and another can look like a tiny forest creature hiding in your sewing room.

The wings are also fun because they use felt and wire. This gives them a soft but poseable shape. You can fold them close to the body for a cuddly look or open them slightly for a more dramatic silhouette.

Classic Bat Plush

This classic bat plush pattern is a sweet middle ground between easy sewing and artist-style toy making. It is simple enough to enjoy without stress, but it still gives room for creative details.

I like this one for makers who have already sewn a few soft toys and want to try something with more expression. The wings are made from felt, and the body can be made from short-pile faux fur. That combination works well because the fur gives softness, while the felt keeps the wings neat and light.

The final look depends a lot on color. Black feels classic, brown feels natural, and grey feels soft and gentle.

Halloween Bat Plush

This Halloween bat plush pattern has a slightly mysterious mood, but it is still soft and charming. I like it as the last pattern in this collection because it has a stronger seasonal feeling. It is perfect for autumn sewing, Halloween décor, gift boxes, craft fairs, or simply for people who love bats all year.

One interesting feature of this project is that the head can be made in different ways. You can sew it from fabric or use needle felting for a more sculpted look. That gives the bat a different personality from the others. It can be cute and simple, or a little more detailed and handmade-looking.

FAQ

Which bat plush pattern is the most popular?

The pink minky bat with flower wings and the foxy bat are the two favorites so far.

Can I sell plush bats made from these free patterns?

Yes, you can sell finished bats made by hand in small quantities. Please do not use the patterns for mass production, and a link back to the original tutorial is always appreciated.

Can I sell the bat patterns themselves?

No, the patterns are for personal use and for sewing your own handmade bats. Do not copy, resell, share, or redistribute the pattern files or images as your own.

Before You Go

These free bat patterns for sewing give you several ways to create modern plushies without starting from zero. You can sew the easiest bat first, then move to faux fur, wire wings, floral fabric, or needle-felted details when you feel ready. My favorite thing about bat plushies is how much their mood changes with fabric. One small pattern can become cozy, gothic, romantic, funny, realistic, or completely fantasy-inspired.

Choose the bat that matches your fabric stash and your mood today. Then save the others for later, because once you finish one little bat, it is very hard not to imagine the next one.
