These sewing patterns for dragon plush toys may look like a sweet little dragon pair at first glance, but they are made differently. Both toys are soft, cute, beginner-friendly, and easy to sew from affordable fabrics like fleece, but their construction is not the same. One dragon has a simpler, cleaner shape, while the other has more character details, such as tiny horns, and an embroidered nose.
I love when two handmade toys look as if they live in the same little fantasy world, but still teach different sewing skills. That is exactly what happened with these dragons. You can sew only one, or make both and turn them into a pair, for example a blue and pink dragon, a brother and sister, or two little baby dragons from the same magical nest.
Blue Dragon Pattern
This dragon has a clean, soft shape and a very friendly beginner-friendly feel. The whole design is quite simple, but it still has enough charm to look like a real little dragon, not just a plain soft toy shape.
This pattern is a good choice if you want a quick project with fewer small details. It is especially helpful for makers who are just starting to understand how plush toys are formed from flat fabric pieces.
This dragon also works beautifully as a first handmade fantasy plush. You can sew it from blue, green, lavender, cream, or any other soft color you like. A pastel version will look very gentle, while a darker fabric can make it feel like a tiny cave dragon.

Pink Dragon Pattern
The pink dragon is also suitable for beginners.
Its extra charm comes from the details. These small elements make the finished toy feel more like a character plushie. It has a sweeter fairy-tale expression, almost as if it is ready to sit on a shelf beside a storybook.
Because the wings are sewn separately, you can choose different colors and create a more playful look. This is a lovely way to use fabric scraps or add contrast without changing the main pattern.
This pattern gives you more opportunities to add personality. The face, horns, crest, and wings help the dragon look more alive and expressive.

Sew Them As A Dragon Pair
One of my favorite ideas is to sew these two dragons as a pair. Since both patterns are beginner-friendly and made from soft affordable fabric, you can create a little dragon family without buying special materials.
Try making one blue and one pink dragon, or use two shades from the same color family. A mint green dragon and a soft yellow dragon would look adorable together. Lavender and cream would give a dreamy, fairy-tale mood. You can also use the same fabric for the wings to visually connect the two designs.
If you make them as a boy and girl dragon pair, you can keep the colors soft and simple. Or you can choose unexpected color combinations instead. A black dragon with silver wings and a peach dragon with cream details would look completely different from the original versions.

Before You Go
These two sewing patterns for dragon plush toys are useful because they give you a choice. You can sew the simplest version first and then move on to the more detailed one. Or you can make both and compare how two similar dragon ideas can be built in different ways.
That is what makes this little pair so interesting. They are similar enough to look lovely together, but different enough to teach you something new.
If you enjoy sewing fantasy soft toys, these dragons are a wonderful place to start. Choose the blue dragon for a simple first project, choose the pink dragon for more details, or sew both and create your own soft handmade dragon pair.

Hi Hanna,
I found your two dragon patterns and now I honestly don’t know which one I want to try first. The blue dragon looks like a good easy start, but the pink one has such cute little details that make it hard to choose. I like that they look like a pair, but they are not made exactly the same way. Thank you very much for these patterns!
Hi!
Thank you so much! I think they are quite close in difficulty, just made in different ways. I would probably choose based on the fabric you already have. If you have two matching colors, you can try the pink dragon pattern because the horns and little details look nice there. For the blue dragon, I personally prefer it without horns. In my opinion, its simple shape looks sweeter and cleaner that way.
Hello again Hanna,
I just noticed that you have another dragon too! I am a fan of dragons! I’m so excited, I don’t even know which one I like more. They are both so cute and magical. Love them!!!! I think I’ll have to sew both of them! Do you have more dragon patterns?
